Le participe passé à cinquante contre un
2016
All the rules of past participle agreements in French are based on the same deep reasoning that can be explained and formalized through a set of twelve extended questions (at most). It is this other method of agreements, a method that redesigns, rebuilds and remodels completely the language system, that we would like to be used in the French grammar courses and that we describe in this study.
The impact of regional demographics on Higher Education Policy. An example from Silesia, Poland
2021
Abstract The determinants of higher education policy have their sources in various spheres, such as economic, social, educational, national policy, administrative, and demographic. Problems for the development of higher education also stem from these spheres. One of them is the challenging demographic situation that is a significant element of developing higher education in southern Poland (particuarly in the Silesia region). Given this context, this article aims to indicate the policies of the universities in the region which respond to the existing demographic threats. This relationship is to confront student opinions regarding their vision for their education and future career within the…

Nyelvi tájkép kisebbségben és többségben: egy új kutatási területröl (Minority and Majority Linguistic Landscape: A New Field of Research)
2013
Pirate John Gow and Literary Renderings of his Career by Daniel Defoe and Sir Walter Scott
2018
This article analyses two literary representations - by Daniel Defoe and Sir Walter Scott - of the career of an early-18th century Orkney pirate in order to confront the contemporary view of John Gow as an unprincipled cutthroat with later literary images of a Romantic corsair. It therefore examines evolving literary approaches in the period to socially transgressive behaviour.
Real-world experience with obeticholic acid in patients with primary biliary cholangitis
2021
Background & aims Obeticholic acid (OCA) is the second-line treatment approved for patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and an inadequate response or intolerance to ursodeoxycholic acid. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of OCA under real-world conditions. Methods Patients were recruited into the Italian PBC Registry, a multicentre, observational cohort study that monitors patients with PBC at national level. The primary endpoint was the biochemical response according to Poise criteria; the secondary endpoint was the biochemical response according to normal range criteria, defined as normal levels of bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and alanine aminotransfer…
A collective case study of athletic identity and successful injury rehabilitation
2015
A severe injury is an identity threatening situation for competitive athletes. Previous literature suggests that having a strong athletic identity can be beneficial for the athlete when injured. To the date there has been little research on how athletic identity is managed during that challenging time of injury. The purpose of this study was to explore how athletic identity is managed during the injury and rehabilitation phase before returning to competitive sport. Knowing the determinants of athletic identity management allows practitioners to adjust their interventions toward specific issues when working with injured athletes. The present study is a qualitative, collective case study. Her…
Players with high physical fitness are at greater risk of injury in youth football.
2022
The aim of this study was to investigate physical fitness, football-specific skills and their association with injury risk in youth football. Altogether 447 male and female players aged 9 to 14 years (median 12 years) participated in performance tests and prospective follow-up. The physical fitness tests included five-jump test for distance, 30-m sprint, football-specific figure of eight agility, countermovement jump, and Yo-Yo intermittent endurance test level 1. The football-specific skill tests included dribbling and passing tests. Injuries and exposure were registered during the 20-week follow-up. Our candidate risk factors were low/high level of physical fitness measured with a composi…
Regulation of type 1 fimbriae synthesis and biofilm formation by the transcriptional regulator LrhA of Escherichia coli
2005
Type 1 fimbriae ofEscherichia colifacilitate attachment to the host mucosa and promote biofilm formation on abiotic surfaces. The transcriptional regulator LrhA, which is known as a repressor of flagellar, motility and chemotaxis genes, regulates biofilm formation and expression of type 1 fimbriae. Whole-genome expression profiling revealed that inactivation oflrhAresults in an increased expression of structural components of type 1 fimbriae. In vitro, LrhA bound to the promoter regions of the twofimrecombinases (FimB and FimE) that catalyse the inversion of thefimApromoter, and to the invertible element itself. TranslationallacZfusions with these genes and quantification offimEtranscript le…
